Advisee Spotlight: Rytham Dawar
Rytham Dawar, a CareerSpring Advisee and student at UC Davis studying Computer Science, always dreamed of working in the tech industry. In order to achieve that, he looked to CareerSpring’s resources to help him overcome two of the primary challenges he saw ahead: one being, the current tech job market, and two, not knowing anyone in the industry to connect with for guidance.
Rytham dove into our resources, looking for help with interview preparation, resume review, and networking. He was easily able to filter through the plethora of Advisors to find ones that had experience in tech and human resources. Rytham shared of his experience that, “Having the chance to connect with Advisors who provided both professional and personal support was life-changing. It not only helped me discover more about myself, but also motivated me to work harder, knowing the Advisors genuinely cared.”
After preparing to present himself in the best way possible, he explored our Jobs page, applied, and ultimately secured a role as a Software Engineering Intern at IBM this summer. CareerSpring helped Rytham bridge the gaps between his education, network, and the tech industry, supporting him to take a major first step with IBM in his career journey.
His advice for other FGLI students is to “I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ‘Your network is your net worth.’ That can be a challenge for first-generation students…thanks to CareerSpring, I’ve built amazing connections with people who support me, guide me, and even vouch for me which has helped me grow professionally and personally.”
The power of the CareerSpring Network continues to surpass our expectations, with advocates helping us change the lives of so many FGLI students and graduates across the nation.
