Advisee Spotlight: Kristian Reed

CareerSpring Advisors play a crucial role in the career development of our Advisees, offering valuable advice and building their professional networks. For Advisor Nigeria Bloczynski, she chose to go above and beyond for Advisee Kristian Reed, a recent graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics from Spelman college. Kristian learned about CareerSpring through Education Partner, EMERGE, and was intentional about how she approached conversations with Advisors such as Nigeria.

Nigeria was able to secure free tickets to Commodities People’s Houston Energy Trading Conference, and Kristian came to mind as someone who would be interested in attending. Nigeria advocated even further for CareerSpring, and we were selected as a Charity Partner for the conference. When asked about what this partnership means, Commodities People’s Managing Director, Ben Hillary shared, “Opening doors to the industry for students, especially those who are first-generation or from low-income backgrounds, is essential to building a more inclusive future…we aim to connect emerging talent with today’s industry leaders, fostering insights and conversations that nurture the next generation in commodities and energy trading.”

Kristian said of her experience at the conference,

was an incredibly valuable experience that gave me the chance to connect with energy industry professionals and gain insight into energy trading and risk management. Thanks to CareerSpring and the mentorship of Nigeria, I had the opportunity to network and grow as I prepare to launch my career. The conference broadened my understanding and strengthened my skills in data analytics and risk management, providing a strong foundation for my next steps.”

CareerSpring is extremely grateful to Nigeria and Commodities People for opening their doors to CareerSpring Advisees for such a unique opportunity. Commodities People is a leading provider of events and information for the global commodity and energy markets and tickets were given as a part of their Future Leaders Initiative.

Jessica Jonah, Partnerships and Community Manager shared in reflection, “Hearing how much the students enjoyed and benefited from the event was truly heartwarming and affirms our commitment to empowering the next generation..”

Experiences like Kristian’s mark a major milestone for many of the FGLI students and graduates CareerSpring supports. While sharing her thoughts, Kristian reflected that, “attending the Houston Energy Conference pushed me to engage with new people, take initiative, and invest in my future.” She continued and advised others to “[not] be afraid to reach out, connect with Advisors, and stay committed to your path. Remember, your journey to success will not look like others, but remaining grounded and focused on your purpose, you’ll find yourself reaching places beyond your expectations.”

The power of the CareerSpring Network continues to surpass our expectations, with advocates helping us change the lives of so many FGLI students and graduates across the nation.
